Discovery of resources from Active Directory into MECM
It is a synchronization process from AD into MECM of information like forest information, domain information, system information, users, security groups.
Create Boundary in MECM
Boundary is usually created according to geographical location.
There’re 5 methods of creating boundary, the first 2 are recommended:
- IP address
- IP subnet
- AD site boundary
- IPv6 Prefix
- VPN
In my version of MECM, I found this 5th method of creating boundary: VPN. So I did a little search:
Beginning with SCCM 2006, you can now create a new boundary type. The SCCM VPN Boundary type helps to manage your remote clients. An upgraded SCCM client now sends a location request which includes information about its network configuration. Your management point can determine if the client is on a VPN connection based on this new information.
Since I only have 4 computers in a same location, within a same IP range, I’ll create only one boundary with IP address method.
Create Boundary Group and assign MECM site on Boundary
Boundary group is for site allocation, we assign a site to a boundary so that computers in a boundary will always connect to that particular site to download content and policies.
