Site Roles
SCCM has 12 Site Roles, all of them can be installed on Primary Site, Secondary Site or any other Windows Server, except for Reporting Services Point and Service Connection Point:

Management Point: a communication bridge between SCCM server and client, devices take all the policies from management point, and uploads all inventory data to management point.

Distribution Point: a content storage, devices will download contents from distribution point.

Software Update Point: SCCM's role to communicate with WSUS, WSUS will communicate with Microsoft Update Server, and take instructions or whatever tasks defined in SUP and perform accordingly.

Fallback Status Point is a role that's used to receive State Messages from clients when Management Point is down, client can use FSP to download content from different distribution point.

Application Catalogue Website Point: Internal appstore as self service portal for users.

Application Catalogue Webservice Point: to establish connection of appstore with SCCM server.

SMS Provider: A WMI (query language that SCCM uses) provider that assigns read and write access to the Configuration Manager database, it converts WMI query into SQL query and feeds in to database.

Asset Intelligence Synchronization Point: to categorize software.

Endpoint Protection Point: to install anti-virus on target computers. It's free if you got SCCM's license.

Reporting Services Point: to connect to report server and fetch reports from database. It can only be installed on database server.

Service Connection Point, must be installed on Primary Site:

to keep SCCM up to date (Microsoft releases 3 versions of SCCM every year, a message will pop out if there's new version available);

to integrate Intune in SCCM.

State Migration Point: it is required during migration of operating system (like Win7 migrates to Win10), it captures the users profile before the migration and restores after migration.
